5 love … does not rejoice in unrighteousness
- 1 Corinthians 13:6a
So, I asked everyone to send me their testimonies on love not rejoicing in unrighteousness and no one sent me anything. I guess I am not the only one who finds this an interesting aspect of the love of God.
I do have an interesting example. When I was in college, there was this one exam where I was studying with a group outside of my normal group of individuals. Within this group was a guy who was having trouble catching the concept. We did our best to help him but he was just not understanding the concepts. Finally the test came and went. When the scores were posted, he did extremely well. And by extremely, I mean he got a perfect score. This was really odd for the man who less than thirty hours prior could barely get his name correct. I decided to congratulate him. As I did, he told me that he cheated in order to get that score and was happy about it. I was not. When pressed, I told him that I believe he was wrong for cheating and should inform the professor and retake the exam. Of course, he refused and really didn’t speak with me from that point forward. He was upset that I did not rejoice in his unrighteousness. In the long run, he was found out to be cheating on tests. I guess the school could not prove how great and extend his cheating was; however, he did have to repeat an entire semester. He was caught in one class and have to repeat ever class in that semester. I guess in a way justice was served. But I will never forget his shocked face when I did not share in his delight that he cheated.
I am sure there are many more examples but love does not rejoice in unrighteousness, like cheating, but instead rejoices in the truth.
Next week, we will continue our study on the Love of God.
